As local staff who had dedicated decades to this mission, the news struck a personal chord. Many of us had grown with USAID—not just as professionals but as beneficiaries and leaders shaping U.S. foreign assistance in Sri Lanka and Maldives. We had worked hand in hand with communities recovering from war, rebuilding lives through resettlement and reconciliation efforts, and guiding the country through democratic transitions and economic reforms. We had seen how development done right could restore hope, bridge divides, and transform futures.
When the closure announcement came, we gathered—united by a shared conviction that this legacy could not end here. Together, we asked ourselves a simple but powerful question: “How can we be the change we want to see in the world?” It was only natural to take this next step. Having been trusted for decades to lead development programs under U.S. foreign assistance principles, we felt a responsibility to continue championing inclusive growth, participatory democracy, justice, and resilience—values that had shaped our lives, our careers and touched countless lives across Sri Lanka, and Maldives.
As we reflect on our experiences, we also look beyond Sri Lanka, because development and social justice is not confined to cartographic boundaries. Over the years, our work has connected us to neighboring countries across the Global South, where communities faced similar transitions and challenges. We realize that the lessons learned, political economy insights and partnerships built in Sri Lanka could inspire and support change well beyond its borders.
Out of this vision, Infinity Impact Partners was born—a commitment to carry forward a 75-year legacy into a new era, driven by local leadership, home based insights, shared values, and the belief that development is not just a project but a calling. We are not only continuing the USAID practice legacy in Sri Lanka and Maldives, but also moving development forward through renewed and broader partnerships—uniting local communities, national stakeholders, and global allies to create lasting, inclusive impact.
